I personally don't think RPG Maker is as viable a commercial platform vs. That's what this is all about.ī) Why are you even considering switching engines? RPG Maker is fine! As it stands, K$ is a great platform for trying to get your indie game funded and produced, as long as you set realistic goals to getting there and getting it done. I would like to be able to make more games, which means I need financing. I am not daydreaming about Kickstarter, either. What I said was that I'm trying to make the best usage of my time in the pursuit of my goals. I'm already working to make my own run-of-the-mill idea a reality, and I am going to continue to do so until it's completed. This isn't the case and I don't think I said that. I can see this project through, I just want to make sure I'm getting started on the right foot.Ī) It sounds to me like you just want someone to make all your brilliant ideas! or, stop daydreaming about Kickstarter! I know no one's going to just make all my great ideas for me, so RMVXA made sense. I don't have the time to learn to program too much (though I do have some familiarity with C#) and I don't have the resources to be much more than a designer/developer. To answer some questions ahead of time, I'm using RMVXA because I work a 40-hour and I need something that I can rapidly and easily prototype. My question is this: does this plan make sense? Is it worth it for me to basically make the game twice - once in RMVXA and once in Unity? Or is Unity friendly enough that I might be able to get away with prototyping directly in it? My current plan is to prototype the game using RPG Maker VX Ace, so I can easily and rapidly get my ideas working, then later (using funding I've either raised or kickstarted or what-have-you), transitioning to Unity 3d with the help of a team that I can pay to properly migrate my ideas. I have a rather lengthy RPG that I'm currently developing.

And while the franchise has been known as RPG Tkool (a portmanteau of Tsukuru and Tool) in Japan, Kadokawa and Gotcha Gotcha Games have decided to unify the brand into the global title RPG Maker, so this software will be known in Japan as RPG Maker Unite as well. For example, it will be the first title in a while to not use a two-initial title since the 2004 RPG Maker XP until the most recent RPG Maker MZ in 2020. Other than the Unity engine base, RPG Maker Unite will also break more traditions in the series.

But like prior RPG Maker iterations, aspiring RPG creators will be able to use RPG Maker Unite by simply inserting graphical assets and story scripts even without extensive knowledge in coding. Unite will be the first entry in the RPG Maker franchise to be based on the widely-used Unity engine. RPG Maker Unite will be available on PCs worldwide in 2022.
